What it is

Credit card debt is one of the most expensive forms of borrowing. This calculator shows what you'll really pay if you stick to a fixed monthly amount.

The formula

n = ln(P / (P − B × r)) / ln(1 + r) B = balance, r = monthly rate, P = monthly payment

Why it matters

Paying the minimum on a $5,000 balance at 22% APR can take over 20 years and cost more in interest than the balance itself.

Common pitfalls
  • Double-check the units on every input — most errors come from mixing units.
  • Round at the end, not in the middle of the formula.
