What it is
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the calories your body burns just keeping you alive — heart beating, lungs breathing, brain running.
The formula
Mifflin-St Jeor: Male: BMR = 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age + 5 Female: BMR = 10×kg + 6.25×cm − 5×age − 161
Why it matters
BMR is the foundation of any calorie target. Multiply it by an activity factor to get TDEE — the calories you actually burn in a day.

- Round at the end, not in the middle of the formula.
